Civil Aviation Staff Undergo First-Aid Course

Bandar Seri Begawan - A first-aid course took place at the Fire and Rescue Department of the Brunei International Airport yesterday in which officers from the Ministry of Health facilitated a course for the benefit of 20 civil aviation personnel.

The three-day course also incorporated instructors from the Fire and Rescue Department and showed participants how to carry out a resuscitation procedure in the event of a medical emergency.

Guidebooks on first-aid were presented to participants by the Acting Deputy Director of Civil Aviation, Mohd Husaini bin Aji.

Particular attention was given to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by instructors. CPR is a procedure that aims to preserve intact brain function until further measures are taken to restore blood circulation and breathing, especially in cases of cardiac arrest.

DCA marks International Civil Aviation Day

January 4th, 2012 - The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) commemorated International Civil Aviation Day with an event held at the Airport Fire Station Hall in Berakas.

The guest of honour officiating the launch was the Minister of Communications, Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar.

A press statement from the DCA stated that International Civil Aviation Day is officially celebrated worldwide every December 7, through the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), also known as the Chicago Convention. ICAO is a specialised organisation under the United Nations tasked at shaping up coordination and supervision of regulations and standards in civil aviation.

"In commemorating the International Civil Aviation Day annually, it demonstrates and strengthens global awareness on the significance of the ICAO in promoting the importance of safety, service efficiency and regularity enforcement in international aviation," the press statement added.

The event also saw the unveiling of three new vehicles for the Airport Fire Station, a 'water tender' and two 'foam tenders' vehicles, which were blessed by the minister in a 'menepung tawar' (sprinkling of scented flowers) ceremony.

22 Complete Aircraft Fire-Fighting Course

Brunei International Airport - Twenty-two Fire and Rescue Department personnel received their certificates of completion after having completed a two-week Basic Aircraft Fire Fighting Course handled by the Training Centre of the Airport Fire Services, Department of Civil Aviation.

Presenting the certificates during the closing ceremony at the Airport Fire Services Main Station, Department of Civil Aviation in Berakas was Hj Omarali bin Hj Mohd Ja'afar, Director of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Communications.

Chief Officer of the Airport Fire Service, Hj Wan Ramli bin Wan Ibrahim, put high hopes for the continuous collaboration between the Airport Fire Services and the Fire and Rescue Department in conducting training programmes and sharing relevant skills and expertise between both sides to enhance their officers' and staff skills and abilities as part of their strategic plan in human resource development.

The Director of Civil Aviation emphasised that attention should be given on the constant updating for the 'validity' of training courses provided in ensuring training courses are adapting to current needs, demands and current development especially technology advancement.

"We need to enhance this to ensure our readiness and promptness in response to emergency situations," he added.

According to a press statement, the course, a joint initiative between the Airport Fire Services, Department of Civil Aviation and Fire and Rescue Department, is designed to infuse more information, understanding and skills in techniques and tactics in responding to emergency situations or aircraft accidents.

Also present at the ceremony were the Acting Deputy Director of Fire and Rescue Department, the Acting Deputy Director of Civil Aviation, and senior officers from both departments.

Dept Of Civil Aviation Signs System Upgrades Contract With Rennovo Solutions Sdn Bhd

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Department of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Communications recently received a significant boost and new upgrades to its existing system following a signing ceremony that was held between the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Rennovo Solutions Sdn Bhd.

The contract signed was for "The Supply, Delivery, Installation, Integration, Configuration, Training, Testing and Commissioning for Upgrading Meteorological Message Switching System - Global Telecommunication System (MMSS-GTS) for the Department of Civil Aviation".

MMSS-GTS is a system that collects data and information from World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) Global Telecommunication System that has the facilities and capabilities to receive local and remote distribution of all types of meteorological data and products including graphical products, automatic plot and analysing system, and pre-flight briefing for pilot.

Signing the contract on behalf of His Majesty's Government was the Director of Civil Aviation, Hj Awg Omarali bin Hj Mohd Ja'afar, whereas on behalf of Rennovo Solutions Sdn Bhd was it was its Chairman, Haji Sapawi bin Bolhassan.

Meanwhile, Dr Haji Sidup bin Hj Sirabaha, Acting Chief Meteorological Officer, and Mr Firdausi Zainidi, Project Manager of Rennovo Solutions Sdn Bhd signed as witnesses.

It was also attended by senior officers from Meteorological Section, Department of Civil Aviation. The prime objective of the collaboration was to improve the existing aviation system with a robust and up-to-date Meteorological Message Switching System, where the intended tangible benefits from this project are among others cost-effective, fast reception and efficient services.
