The BDMS began its operation in the late 1950s at the Old Brunei Airport site. A Meteorological Station was later set up and observations were carried out to meet aviation requirements. Since then, the BDMS has developed into the national agency for the provision of meteorological service.
Under the auspices of the DCA, the BDMS maintains a Weather Forecast Centre which also acts as an Aviation Weather Watch Office, equipped with amongst other things Doppler Weather Surveillance Radar and a Satellite Images Reception System, BDMS also operates a nationwide network of automatic meteorological stations enabling monitoring of real-time weather conditions around the clock.
